Boxing for Charity

On Friday 4th of July 2008 a Boxing Charity Event in aid of Puttinu Cares was held at Mosta Square. This event was organised by I & J Fitness team and all the boxers, and the sum of 2789.91 euros was collected from sponsors and people attending the event. Exhibiting in this event were boxers who have trained with Iman and his father Jimmy for the last couple of months. This included some of the Island Hotels Group staff - John Dandria, Adrian Tonna, Brian Galea, and Patrick Galea who have taken up fitness boxing.

Today fitness boxing is recognized as a significant, health-promoting exercise program that provides a versatile and complete workout. Fitness boxing is a variation of actual boxing in which real punches are never exchanged at any time. The training consists primarily of exercise done with and without exercise equipment, as well as work on speed and the heavy bags, and training using padded gloves. The workout and punching exercises improve basic motor skills, strength, endurance, speed and coordination, and are excellent for reducing aggression and increasing concentration.
This training also increases self-confidence and emotional well-being. It does this better than any other sport or exercise.

Benefits from fitness boxing include well developed muscle strength, increased stamina and improvement to concentration and reflexes. These benefits make it easier to deal with everyday stress. Improvement to concentration and reflexes is useful not only in the working environment, but also when pursuing recreational activities.
